Aquitaine

Village Ocelandes is situated in the French department Les Landes of the District of Aquitaine. The beautiful coastal strip of this region stretches from Arcachon to the Spanish border.

Here you find the splendid broad sand beaches of the Atlantic coast. There are many different possibilities for practising watersports. Daring surfers show their antics on the boisterous waves: a wonderful spectacle.

Directly behind the coast you will find extensive pinewoods and large lakes amongst which are the lakes of Léon, Aureilhan, Biscarosse and Parentis. Ideal if you think the waves of the Atlantic Ocean are too high.

When you follow the coast to the south you arrive at the imposing Pyrenees. Well-known seaside resorts are Biarritz and Hendaye. Also worth visiting are Saint-Jean-de-Luz and Bayonne with their cosy squares and restaurants.

The hinterland of Aquitaine boasts pristine natural scenery and has numerous traditions. Its high summits and peaceful valleys with their lucid mountain streams for canoeists and rafters.

Discover how the proud population cherishes its culture. Each village may have its own folkloristic festival celebrated in the village square in the shade of the ‘fronton’ (fives wall). The Spanish influence is quite noticeable: architecture, temperament and even many names are Spanish.

In Aquitaine mountains, lakes and the ocean are represented in all their splendour.

You will find more information on the website of the Comité Régional du Tourisme d’Aquitaine.
